OilerTHON raises over $47,000

On Saturday, November 17th students at the University of Findlay held their annual OilerTHON. OilerTHON is a 10-hour dance marathon that supports Mercy Health – Children’s Hospital, their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. The OilerTHON committee had been working hard since last year to plan this event. They knew that it was going to take a lot of work in order to raise more than the $40,000 they raised in 2017.

Five students took a weekend out of their summer to attend the Dance Marathon Leadership Conference, where they networked with other Dance Marathon programs around the country. There they learned best practices, that they would take back to their team and school. As soon as donor drive opened on August 28th, the students started to fundraise. They held information events and helped at freshman welcome, to just get the word out about what is OilerTHON. Because of all of their hard work they were able register a record breaking 315 students for the event. Their previous high was 256 students.

Now that they had participants they had to teach them how to fundraise. They did so by tabling on campus, sending out fundraising tips via email and social media, and going to campus organizations to see how they could help the participants. An early indication of their success was on their Day of Miracles fundraising push day. They had a goal of raising $7,000 in one day, and were able to raise $7,200 in 24 hours! It set the path for their success for the rest of the semester.

On event day, participants welcomed the miracle children from Mercy Health – Children’s Hospital, and started to participate in the events for the day. But they knew that they would have to keep fundraising if they wanted to surpass last years total.

At 10pm they revealed…

$47,058.23!!! A new record for OilerTHON! Thank you to the exec team and the committee members for a year of planning and fundraising. Thank you to all of the participants, this number would not have been possible without you. Lastly, thank you to the University of Findlay for allowing their students to host this event. Mercy Health – Children’s Hospital is very grateful for the support OilerTHON gives us.

We are incredibly proud to be partnered with such an amazing program and cannot wait to see what miracles they are able to make in 2019!
